Here is some info about the DREAM ACT for those of you that are interested in taking action in support of this cause. We only have the next few WEEKS until congress meets to contact our senator. Thank you for your help.
……………………………………………………………………
The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (Dream Act) will allow undocumented immigrant students who have lived in the United States for at least five years since he or she was 15 years old or younger to be permitted to apply for conditional status, which would allow them up to six years of legal residence status. This will allow undocumented students to work, drive, go to school, and otherwise participate normally in day-to-day activities on the same terms as other Americans,
In the beginning of 2007 the Dream Act was attached to the Senate Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, but in the month of June the bill failed to pass.
Despite the apparent failure of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Richard Durbin, the second highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate, have expressed a desire for Congress to pass the DREAM Act in 2007.Durbin has announced plans to attach the DREAM Act to the 2008 defense appropriations bill. According to the Army Times, several senior officials at the Department of Defense have spoken in favor of the DREAM Act, and specifically the bill's promise of legal status to members of the military as a means of boosting recruitment.
This is another opportunity for Dream Act to pass this year. Congress will be back in session during the first week in September, and sometime in this month they will debate on the bill.

In order to commemorate the season and take advantage of the upcoming Labor Day weekend, we are hosting another ‘BBQ in South Miami’. However, this time around we decided to raise the stakes and make it a proper Pig Roast (the pig will be from a local farm…so you can’t get much more free range than that!) So bring your appetites, stories, families and friends, and get ready to meet up for some good company.
Fall '07 Pig Roast
All are welcome!Brought to you by:
John Stiefel, Mike Kline, and Kurt Birchenough
Date: Sunday, September 2nd, 2007
Location:
6630 SW 62nd CT
South Miami FL 33143
Time: Well, we are going to start roasting the pig in the morning, with a goal of eating around 4 or 5pm…all are welcome anytime–the keg will be tapped to appease the cooks!
Details: So obviously, since this is a pig roast, we aren't doing the vegetarian thing this time. But don't worry, we're building an oven to roast the pork so the grill will be available for anyone who wants to bring meat alternatives. We will also be providing a keg of suds, which, to the best of my knowledge, is still vegetarian. We only ask that you bring along a side/dish to pass to go along with the pork. Also, we will provide limited non-alcoholic beverages so if you want something other than that, you may want to plan ahead.
If you have any questions, shoot John Stiefel an email or ring him at 206-550-9495.
